Birthplace of
Saint Augustine
Souk Ahras, known in antiquity as Thagaste, is the cradle of one of humanity's greatest thinkers. Born here in 354 AD, Augustine walked these very streets before becoming the Doctor of the Church whose Confessions still echo across centuries.
His mother Monica — later canonized as Saint Monica — raised him in this Numidian soil. The ancient tree under which Augustine meditated still stands as a living testament to that sacred bond.
